On Saturday, November 15th, 2025, at approximately 1:29 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a crash between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on a scooter at the intersection of W. 5th St. and Rio Grande St. The driver of the motor vehicle remained on the scene, was not impaired, and cooperated with the investigation. The pedestrian was transported and pronounced deceased at the hospital the following day.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 84th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 88 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2024, 78 fatal crashes resulted in 83 deaths. These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
