On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at approximately 2:08 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 7300 block of South Congress Ave. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver involved in the incident left the scene without notifying emergency services.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 13th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 13 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, eight fatal crashes resulted in eight deaths.
