Homicide Investigation at 4700 Loyola Lane

Deceased victim:  Nicholas Zarate, Hispanic male, 8/10/1978

On Sunday, March 23, 2026, at 5:03 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a Shoot/Stab Urgent call at 4700 Loyola Lane. The caller reported a disturbance and possible gunfire. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a man lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Nicholas Zarate and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicides Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation has shown Zarate was shot and killed by a suspect who then fled the scene on foot.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 16th homicide of 2026.
