Austin’s Iconic Crown Jewel Barton Springs Pool Reopens Saturday, March 21
Barton Springs Pool, 2131 William Barton Dr., reopens this Saturday, March 21, for city residents and visitors to enjoy. City of Austin staff and contractors successfully completed the Barton Springs Skimmer Bypass Project this week.
Save time by purchasing tickets for Barton Springs Pool and Austin’s other year-round pools using the free ATXSwims app available at the Mac App Store or Google Play. Tickets are also available onsite at ticket kiosks or counter purchases.
The project removed and mitigated the decommissioned circa 1940 skimmer bypass to address safety and environmental concerns. During construction, environmental protections for the sensitive salamander habitat were monitored by Austin Watershed Protection. The changes will help support a more stable environment in this critical habitat.
During the closure, Austin Parks and Recreation completed additional deferred maintenance projects within the pool area in preparation for the spring season. This included grass aeration and seeding, gravel removal, repainting and refinishing signage and guard stands, servicing the diving board, and clearing algae from upstream areas.
