A Partnership Renewed

On March 22, 2024, Viva Aerobus and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) cut the ribbon and cheered about their rejuvenated partnership and new nonstop service to Monterrey, Mexico. The airline had previously served AUS passengers with nonstop service to Mexico between 2008 to 2009, and now we're thrilled to have them return as the airport’s 19th airline carrier.

We welcomed passengers to the inaugural flight with a talented mariachi band playing passionate harmonies of traditional Mexican music at the gate. Passengers were also treated to butter cookies branded with “AUS to MTY,” making the celebration of the new route and Viva Aerobus’ restored spot at AUS even sweeter.

Contributing to Connections

After the performance, admired representatives on behalf of the Austin Airport, the City of Austin, and the Austin Consul General of Mexico honored the connecting of these two, one-of-a-kind cities with remarks about the impact of this partnership, followed by a ribbon cutting. Speakers highlighted the value of offering families, tourists, and business travelers affordable and direct air service between Monterrey International Airport (MTY) and Austin. By flying to this prominent region in Mexico four days a week, Viva Aerobus will contribute to strengthening business, vacation, and family connections simultaneously.

From incredible mountaintops to remarkable structures, we have it on good authority that Monterrey will take your breath away. Experience Mexico’s exceptional culture by exploring historical pieces and authentic cuisine from the community. Not to mention, the vibrant city of Monterrey is energized by university students and entrepreneurs alike. Plus, plenty more opportunities lie beyond the city limits of Monterrey as the route can serve as a gateway for passengers to journey to other popular destinations across Mexico.
