The Office of Sustainability’s Climate Program works to make Austin the leading city in mitigating impacts of climate change.
Some Office of Sustainability staff are responsible for working with City staff to develop and implement department-specific climate protection plans, collecting and verifying data to monitor the City’s greenhouse gas inventory, and providing climate protection related training and educational outreach to all City employees.
In 2013, the Austin Climate Protection Program received a Climate Leadership Award from the Environmental Protection Agency and its nonprofit partners The Climate Registry, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, and the Association of Climate Change Officers. Austin is the first City to receive an Organizational Leadership award for its response to climate change.
