File a Wage Theft Complaint
The City of Austin’s Wage Theft Program makes sure that businesses contracting with the City have not been found guilty of wage theft by state or federal agencies.
What is Wage Theft?
Wage theft happens when a worker does not receive full payment for the work they performed. This is different from a subcontractor, vendor or business not being paid for services or invoices.
Examples of wage theft include:
- Outright nonpayment of wages
- Asking employees to work off the clock
- Withholding employee tips
- Misclassifying employees as independent contractors

How to File a Complaint
If you believe you are a victim of wage theft—or you’ve witnessed an act of wage theft by an employer or vendor—you can file a complaint with the City of Austin.
