About the program

The Prevailing Wages Program was created to monitor the compliance of City-contracted construction projects with prevailing wage requirements, as published and governed by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

The Financial Services Department oversees all City-contracted construction projects with regards to the pay of all workers employed on the projects, as governed by Dept. of Labor-established prevailing wage rates and TX Statute 2258.

Wage Compliance involves monitoring active City of Austin construction projects to verify compliance by the Contractor with Section 00830 of the Contract Documents, which covers Wage Rates and Payroll Reporting. All laborers and mechanics working on these projects must be paid at least the prevailing wage for their trade, as set by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, or the City of Austin minimum wage as established by City Ordinance, whichever is higher.

For all non-federal projects, the following posters must be displayed:

  • Texas Workers Compensation posters showing employee coverage (English and Spanish versions)
  • Equal Employment Opportunity posters (English and Spanish versions)
  • Texas Payday Law posters (English and Spanish versions)
  • Rest Break Ordinance posters (English and Spanish versions)
  • Title VI Rights poster
  • City of Austin Contact and Wage Dispute Notice (English and Spanish versions)
  • A copy of all applicable Prevailing Wage Rates for the project

Any City projects receiving federal funds are required to display additional posters, subject to the requirements of the funding source. All required wage-related posters are provided to the Contractor by City staff prior to the start of work. All required postings are provided by City staff at a project's pre-construction meeting prior to start of work.
