Homicide Investigation at 5012 East 7th Street

Deceased victim:  Richard Barr, Black Male, 1/10/1997

Arrested suspect:  Ryan Lara, Black Male, 21 years of age

On Friday, April 10, 2026, at 8:40 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to the call of a shooting at the Cabana Club at 5012 East 7th Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a subject, later identified as Richard Barr, with apparent gunshot wounds to his body. Barr was pronounced deceased on scene.  

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to the scene. The investigation showed there had been a physical altercation in the parking lot outside the club which escalated into the suspect, identified as Ryan Lara, shooting the victim in the back. The victim had been moving away and across the parking lot from him when he was shot. Lara also shot two other subjects in the group who were transported to the hospital. One remains in critical condition, while the other has been released.

The lead detective has spoken with several witnesses and has made several attempts to contact a potential associate of the arrested suspect.

Lara has been charged with Murder, a 1st Degree Felony.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 20th homicide of 2026.
