About Redistricting

Austin has 10 city council members and a mayor. The mayor is elected by residents citywide and each council member is elected by residents of a geographic district within the city.

Austin has a process for residents to redraw the boundaries of the council districts every ten years. The boundaries of the council districts greatly impact Austin’s government and will shape how residents are represented for the next decade.

Description

Meetings and Agendas

Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission Meetings and their agendas are posted on the Boards and Commissions page on the City of Austin site. Such meetings are broadcast and recorded on ATXN. To share your opinion at a Commission Meeting, please email icrc.commissioners@austintexas.gov in advance and we will do our best to accommodate.

In-person and virtual public forums were hosted in 2021 for citizens to share their thoughts on important considerations related to their community and district prior to the current map’s approval.
