Austin Parks and Recreation Projects

After the City of Austin acquired the Montopolis Negro School in 2019, Austin Parks and Recreation initiated formal protective efforts in preparation for the revisioning of this historic school building. City Council District 3

Austin Parks and Recreation is partnering with Austin Parks Foundation to renovate the Montopolis Neighborhood Park playground. This project is in the construction phase. City Council District 3

In 2018 City of Austin voters approved a General Obligation Bond that included funding for the renovation of the beloved Montopolis Pool in Southeast Austin. This project is under construction. City Council District 3

In late summer 2025, the project started the design development phase. The program will incorporate both Austin Parks and Recreation administrative spaces and community-serving spaces. City Council District 3

The 1922 Norwood House sits on Town Lake Metropolitan Park atop a bluff on the southern side of Lady Bird Lake. Austin Parks and Recreation is evaluating whether to restore the structure or propose an alternate improvement. City Council District 9

During the 2016 rehabilitation of the Chapel, archeologists discovered human remains on site. The rehabilitation of the Chapel and reinterment of the displaced remains was completed in 2021. Further DNA analysis is ongoing. City Council District 1

Austin Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with Austin Parks Foundation, is designing an All Abilities Playground at Onion Creek Metropolitan Park. City Council District 2

Onion Creek Metropolitan Park is a 517-acre regional park located in Southeast Austin. The vision plan was adopted in 2015. City Council District 2

The Parque Zaragoza Bathhouse project focused on restoring the existing masonry building to support the pool facility and the Austin Parks and Recreation Aquatic Division's needs. Construction is complete. City Council District 3
