The Austin Fire Marshal’s Office conducts fire hydrant flow testing to assess the capability of the water supply system to deliver sufficient flow and pressure for firefighting operations and building code compliance.

The Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for coordinating and conducting fire and life safety inspection services for the City of Austin.

Fireworks are illegal to possess or use in the City of Austin unless a permit has been issued for a professional display. These permits are issued by the Austin Fire Special Events only if requirements are met.

Working smoke alarms provide a crucial early warning to get out of a house or building during a fire.

Austin Fire (AFD) conducts mobile food vending (MFV) inspections for vendors operating within the City of Austin. These inspections are part of the process required to obtain and maintain annual MFV permits.

Austin Fire is required to install a stationary Liquefied Petroleum gas (LP-Gas) aboveground or underground container or LP-Gas cylinder exchange cabinet at commercial businesses, multi-family housing, and one- and two- family dwellings.

Pass the Torch provides participants aged 18 to 35 with an opportunity to learn about the fire service and emergency medical services in a safe, controlled learning environment during weekend sessions over approximately three months.

Austin Fire (AFD) supports the use of prescribed burns for forest and range management, ecological restoration, and training purposes where and when appropriate.

Austin Fire has a process to help Central Texas campuses comply with Texas Education Code Section 37.117, which requires school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide to the Department of Public Safety and all appropriate local law
