Through the preservation and exhibition of African American material culture, history, and aesthetic expression, the Carver Museum works to create a space where the global contributions of all Black people are celebrated. We accomplish this by telling stories about our local community and connecting those histories to larger narratives about Blackness. The Carver Museum is free and open to the public. Masks are encouraged inside the museum.

Join us on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 12-3 PM at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center for the annual Pumpkin Carver! This free, family-friendly event is jam packed with fall fun. The Carver will supply free pumpkins (2 pumpkins per family, while supplies last), carving kits to use on site, goodie bags, food, and drinks! There will be a costume contest, a pumpkin carving contest(for prizes), live goats, fun activities, music, and more! Hosted in partnership with the Carver Branch Library.
* * Alternative sensory friendly activities will be offered. Capacity limited, rotating sessions to accommodate need.**

Carver Museum ATX is excited to announce the extension of WHAT I CARRY, now open through January 10, 2026! Now you have more time to stop by the museum to view these stunning works by Dallas-based artist, Riley Holloway! “This exhibition is a tribute to the beauty and strength found in the everyday—drawing deeply from family photo albums, church gatherings, reunions, and quiet, personal moments. Community Garden and Sunken Stage

The Carver community garden and sunken stage has breathed new life into the in the inactive Keeling pool. Recently repainted by Austin artist, Kelv Brown, this space is on its way to housing events in the fall. Renovated and reimagined by Greg Farrar, this space is outfitted by hand-made seating, greenhouses, and concession stands. Master Gardener Harvé Franks tends the planter boxes, as we continue to uplift this hidden gem situated directly beside the Freedom Plaza behind the museum.
