Davis Medium Service Water Transmission Main

Project Overview

Austin Water is working to improve the reliability of our water distribution system with the Davis Medium Service Water Transmission Main project. Currently in preliminary design, the project will install a large-diameter water transmission main from the Davis Water Treatment Plant to east Austin. It is also a recommendation from the Winter Storm Uri After Action Report to improve reliable water delivery across the Austin area.

The project will install approximately 6.5 miles of tunneled, 84-inch diameter water transmission main from the Davis Water Treatment Plant to the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Springdale Road.

Tunneling rather than open-cut trenching will significantly reduce construction impacts to the public. The transmission main will deliver water more reliably to farther reaches of the distribution system, and increased use of the Davis Water Treatment Plant will allow the Ullrich Water Treatment Plant to more reliably serve its own service area.
