Project Overview
We are continuously working to improve the community’s water infrastructure for the needs of the future. As part of that work, Austin Water will install a new gravity wastewater interceptor line in the Upper Harris Branch basin. A gravity wastewater interceptor is a pipe that collects wastewater from smaller collector pipes, then transports the collected flow to a treatment plant. The new Upper Harris Branch interceptor will connect to the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant.
It will be installed in two phases. In Phase 1, Austin Water will install approximately 10,700 LF of 36-inch and 42-inch diameter pipes. These pipes will be installed as far down as 40 feet. For this project, the contractor will use both traditional “open cut” trench work as well as “trenchless” tunneling, using a bore to drill a tunnel for pipe installation.
Timeline
Phase 1 runs from Dessau Road to Harris Branch Parkway. We anticipate construction will begin in March or April 2026 and be finished in 29 months. Phase 2 is in the final stages of design.
