We strive to save 90% of animals that enter the shelter. This is challenging, since all animals are accepted regardless of age, health, species, breed or behavior. Hundreds of community animals may need shelter more than one already in a home.
The City asks that owners exhaust all options before deciding to bring a pet to the shelter. Check with family, friends, coworkers and other rescue organizations. Advertise your pet for adoption.
Helpful tips to re-homing a pet:
Spay or neuter the pet.
Make sure the pet is healthy and current on vaccinations.
Work with the pet to make sure it is friendly and comfortable with many different people and situations.
Allow the pet indoors, so it can learn to be social and have better manners.
Staff will contact you to discuss the profile and schedule an appointment.
Bring your pet to the center with any veterinary and/or vaccination records.
The center is an open-intake shelter serving the Austin and Travis County. We accept any animal from our jurisdiction that needs shelter regardless of age, health, species, breed or behavior, and no matter whether it is a stray or an owned animal.
