Austin's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) hosts monthly pop-up events throughout the city to promote public awareness and safety tips to prepare for various emergencies. HSEM partners with other city departments and non-government organizations to provide the public with a variety of services and information to be ready for the next emergency.
HSEM hosts these events at branches of the Austin Public Library in each City Council district to provide learning opportunities across the city. Some events may include information on specific types of disasters or emergencies that are more likely to impact the geographical area of the respective districts, like wildfire or flooding. The first 25 attendees receive a basic emergency preparedness kit (limit one per household).
Is your local library not on the list? We understand the some City Council districts may have more than one public library within their boundaries. Your local library may not have been available on the desired date due to other planned events. HSEM also may choose your library for a future event as we believe emergency preparedness at the individual level is an important resource that can help you, your family, and your neighbors during an emergency.
