The Texas Legislature established the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) in 1949 to safeguard consumers in matters of real property transactions and valuation services.  TREC shares staff members and resources with the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB), established as an independent subdivision of TREC in 1991 when federal law required increased regulation of appraisals.

Residents in need of legal help are encouraged to call Texas RioGrande Legal Aid's toll-free disaster assistance hotline at 1-866-757-1570.  The hotline is staffed Monday through Friday and features a voicemail system that allows callers to leave their information when lines are busy or calls unanswered.  TRLA staff will return calls as soon as possible.

The Section also provides records information by telephone and email and provides plain and certified copies upon request. Although the Section continues to accept documents by fax and mail, an increasing number of documents are received through electronic submission on SOSDirect.

The Amber Grants began in 1998.  It was launched by Womensnet to honor the memory of a young woman (Amber) who died at the age of 19 - unable to fulfill her entrepreneurial dreams.  Each month $500 is awarded as a qualifying grant as selected by WomensNet judges.
