TIME: Registration and drop-off will begin on-site at 7:00 am. and will continue until 10 am, or until the schedule is full each day.

• You will remain in your car throughout the process from registration, to drop off and pickup.
• All patients will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must be residents of the City of Austin or Travis County.
• All pets must be at least 2 lbs and 2 months old.
• Cats must be in secure carriers or traps with a usable door. Only one cat is allowed per carrier.
• Please alert staff at the time of drop-off if the pet is currently nursing.
• We will provide pick-up information at the time of drop-off and written discharge instructions when your pet is discharged.
• If your pet has been vaccinated in the last year, please bring proof of vaccine.

Do I have to live in Travis County? Will my address be verified?

Yes. As Austin’s municipal shelter, we can only serve Travis County residents.
Bring a photo ID with your current address.
If your ID isn’t up to date, bring a piece of mail showing your name and current Travis County address.

How many animals can I bring?

There is no limit on animals per vehicle.
Registration will close once the daily capacity is reached.

How does drop-off and pick-up work?

• You will stay in your car with your pet(s) during check-in. Our team will come to you to help with registration and guide you through drop-off. Wait times can be 2 hours or more, so plan ahead and bring anything you need to stay comfortable.
• Pick-up is the same day! We’ll call or text you when your pet is ready to go (the call may come from a different area code).
• Because we’ll be caring for so many pets, we’re not able to give updates or exact pick-up times. Please keep your phone nearby—our vet team may need to reach you. Some pets may be ready as late as 8 p.m. or later.

Are there breed or size restrictions?

No, all breeds and sizes are welcome within these limits:

1. Must be at least 2 months old and 2 pounds
2. Must be 10 years old or younger
3. Must be in overall good health

A veterinarian will perform a brief physical exam before surgery.
Please disclose any medical conditions or medications at drop-off.

Note: The clinic environment can be stressful for sensitive or aggressive dogs. If your dog is reactive or easily triggered, this may not be the best setting.

Is this also a vaccine and microchip clinic?

No. Free vaccines and microchips are available only for cats and dogs receiving spay/neuter surgery.

Are vaccines and microchips optional?

No, this free service will be included for all animals that undergo surgery.

• All pets will receive required vaccines unless you provide proof of current vaccination (a rabies tag alone is not enough).
• If your pet doesn’t have a microchip, one will be implanted during surgery

Can I bring feral or free-roaming cats?

Yes. Free-roaming cats are welcome and must:

• Be in a humane trap that is covered.
• Be scanned for a microchip before surgery.
• Be ear-tipped after surgery to indicate sterilization.

If you’d like to keep your trap cover, let the check-in team know — we’ll provide a replacement.

What is ear tipping?

• Ear tipping is the surgical removal of the tip of the left ear while the cat is under anesthesia.
• It identifies sterilized cats in the community and prevents them from being trapped repeatedly.
• Ear tipping is recommended for owned cats who go outdoors so it shows they are sterilized when roaming.

Can I bring a pet that’s in heat?

Yes. Animals in heat (estrus) can safely have surgery at the clinic.

Can I bring an animal that’s pregnant or nursing?

Yes. If your pet recently gave birth and is still nursing:

• Inform staff at check-in.
• If kittens or puppies are under 3 weeks old and you can’t bottle-feed at home, you may bring them in the same carrier as the mother.

• Permanecerás en tu automóvil con tus mascotas durante el registro. Nuestro equipo irá hasta ti para ayudarte con la inscripción y guiarte en el proceso de entrega. Los tiempos de espera pueden ser de 2 horas o más, así que planea con anticipación y trae lo necesario para estar cómodo.
• La recogida es el mismo día. Te llamaremos o enviaremos un mensaje de texto cuando tu mascota esté lista (la llamada puede provenir de un código de área diferente).
• Como estaremos cuidando a muchos animales, no podremos dar actualizaciones ni horarios exactos de recogida. Mantén tu teléfono cerca en caso de que nuestro equipo veterinario necesite comunicarse contigo. Algunos animales podrían estar listos hasta las 8 p.m. o más tarde.

¿Hay restricciones por raza o tamaño?

No, todas las razas y tamaños son bienvenidos, dentro de estos límites:

• Deben tener al menos 2 meses de edad y pesar 2 libras (1 kg).
• Deben tener 10 años de edad o menos.
• Deben estar en buen estado de salud general.

Un veterinario realizará un examen físico breve antes de la cirugía.
Por favor, informa sobre cualquier condición médica o medicamento durante el registro.

¿Puedo traer gatos ferales o que viven al aire libre?

Sí. Los gatos que viven al aire libre son bienvenidos y deben:

• Estar en una trampa humana cubierta.
• Ser escaneados para detectar un microchip antes de la cirugía.
• Recibir un corte en la oreja (ear tip) después de la cirugía para indicar esterilización.

Si deseas conservar la cubierta de tu trampa, avísale al personal durante el registro; te proporcionaremos una de reemplazo.

¿Qué es el “ear tipping”?

El ear tipping consiste en cortar quirúrgicamente la punta de la oreja izquierda mientras el gato está bajo anestesia.

Esto permite identificar a los gatos esterilizados en la comunidad y evita que sean atrapados repetidamente.

También se recomienda para gatos con dueño que salen al exterior, ya que muestra que están esterilizados.

¿Puedo traer una mascota que está en celo?

Sí. Los animales en celo pueden someterse a cirugía de manera segura en la clínica.

¿Puedo traer una mascota que está preñada o amamantando?

Sí. Si tu mascota dio a luz recientemente y aún está amamantando:

• Infórmalo al personal durante el registro.
• Si las crías tienen menos de 3 semanas y no puedes alimentarlas con biberón en casa, puedes traerlas en el mismo transportador que la madre.
