Register Today for Basic Emergency Preparedness Training on May 8

The City of Austin’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) is hosting an emergency preparedness classroom training. This two-hour session is developed in partnership with Austin Fire Department, Austin Fire Department Wildfire Division, Ascension Seton, and Go Austin/Vamos Austin (GAVA).

  • Event: Ready Together: Basic Emergency Preparedness for You, Your Family & Your Neighborhood (Classroom Training)
  • Time: Thursday, May 8, 2025, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Location: Carver Branch Austin Public Library, 1161 Angelina St, Austin, TX 78702

Registration is required. Click here to reserve a spot. Complimentary pizza and beverages will be provided for attendees. Please RSVP to secure your spot and assist us in planning accordingly.

This training is free and open to all community members, regardless of prior knowledge. Participants will receive expert guidance on the four steps of emergency preparedness: creating a plan, building an emergency kit, knowing your neighbors, and staying informed. The course is designed to equip attendees with knowledge and strategies to prepare their households and communities for a range of potential hazards. As part of HSEM’s all-hazards approach, this installment will focus on wildfire safety. Central Texas ranks fifth in the nation for number of homes at risk of wildfire, and this course will help community members with the knowledge to stay safe. The course will also cover fire prevention basics for the home.

Upon completion of the course, participants will receive an emergency preparedness starter kit and a NOAA weather radio. Interpreters will be available in both Spanish and American Sign Language.

More information on how to prepare can be found at www.ReadyCentralTexas.org .
