Help choose artwork for annual Austin Preparedness Calendar

Finalists have been chosen for the annual Austin Emergency Preparedness Calendar and voting starts Monday, July 1, 2024 through Friday, July 19, 2024. The City of Austin Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management produces the calendar each year featuring artwork from youth in in kindergarten through 8th grade.

Voting helps select the winners of the annual art contest to be featured in the calendar. The Austin Emergency Preparedness Calendar also includes safety tips for a variety of weather hazards and man-made emergencies to help the community prepare.

“HSEM has emergency preparedness programming for Austinites aged 5 to 95 years old,” said Bill Wilson, Interim Director of Austin HSEM. “It is important for everyone to learn how to prepare for emergencies, and this calendar is an engaging way for young artists to learn these skills.”

Over 200 children submitted artwork for consideration. HSEM invites the community to vote on 24 finalists to narrow down to the top 12 that will earn a spot in the 2025 Austin Emergency Preparedness Calendar. The winners will also be recognized during a Distinguished Service Award Ceremony in December sponsored by District 6.

Learn more about the Austin Emergency Preparedness Calendar program and vote for your favorite 12 finalists at austintexas.gov/hsemcalendar.

2024 Calendars also are available in limited quantities during Austin HSEM’s monthly Emergency Preparedness Pop-Up events.
