Ever notice how our creeks and rivers are "trashed" after a storm? That's because rain and wind push pollutants downhill to the lowest point in the area - the creek or the lake. Trash is the largest and most visible urban creek pollutant.
Trash travels from our streets to our creeks. That trash can:
- Add pollutants such as cigarette butts, batteries, motor oil and paint
- Decrease oxygen levels as it decays in the creek
- Destroy aquatic habitat
- Harm aquatic life (particularly plastic and plastic bags)
- Make the City look ugly!
Get Involved!
- Recycle
- Put non-recyclable trash in trash cans
- Mark storm drains
- Volunteer for a clean-up
- Share the PSA below with others
