Approved Medical Devices

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates medical devices including those used within EMS Systems.  Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) require purchase by or on the order of a physician.  AEDs are also required to be used by or on the order of a physician.  The EMS System Medical Director provides the initial prescription and the approved AED configuration for devices used under this medical oversight.

Currently approved AEDs for future purchases by public safety agencies include:

  • Philips FR3 AED with QCPR and Voice+Data recording.
