On May 9, 2022, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: Officer
was working with 6 other officers that were
overseeing theft operations (ARR removing people's tents, and food) and threatening to
arrest people if they did not abandon their property. Officer
was yelling at him
and threatening to arrest him and break his camera. He moved to the sidewalk to allow the
officer to beat him or whatever. He does not know how SO many complaints have been
dismissed with no incident. There have been ongoing problems with Officer
A
Sergeant spoke to Officer
and Officer
and made a lot of accusations about
things he did not know about because he was not there when the incident occurred. The
Sergeant told him they were worried about him being crushed by the cranes and it was
dangerous for him to be near the equipment. The complainant alleges they were nowhere
near the equipment and the officers just did not want them to film. The officers were
standing underneath cranes, that were hauling away people's tents and belongings, with no
hard hats. When that was mentioned, the Sergeant laughed and told him he had workman's
comp. The Sergeant did not want to talk about the federal violations he had created but
made imaginary reasons why the complainant was not able to film.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
