Austin Youth Development gives youth between the ages of 17 and 22 the chance to work for the City of Austin to learn the skills they need to reach their educational and career goals.

AYD gives youth aged 17-22 the opportunity to gain city work experience for one year!

Youth workers get paid a living wage and work under the supervision of a full-time city employee.

AYD’s mission is to provide guidance and work experience to assist youth in achieving educational and career goals.

AYD’s vision is for all youth in the City of Austin will have the skills necessary to have a sustainable career.

AYD Goals

  • Provide mentoring and help foster employability skills among young workers.
  • Provide opportunities for youth to earn a livable wage
  • Help youth develop a career path through educational achievement, goal setting, financial planning, and health equity.

Supportive Services

Youth workers collaborate with AYD’s case manager to create an individualized one-year plan. The case manager assists youth workers to attain educational and career goals.

Are you interested, & meet these requirements?

  • 17-22 years old.
  • Live in the Travis County.
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Able to obtain driver’s license within 90 days.
  • Have or be working towards a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

The Austin Youth Development program was started in 1996 in response to the growing issues in Austin, TX’s youth community.

Upon successful completion of program, historically participants have found gainful employment.

In association with the City of Austin, TX and the Austin Public Health group, this program has been made possible and accessible to our local youth!
