On June 12th, 2022, at approximately 8:35 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call regarding an individual who fired shots at several people in the 600 block of Azie Morton Road near Zilker Park. After investigating the scene, officers identified the suspect as Louis Garcia. Several victims reported Garcia approached them holding a gun. The victims stated Garcia then pointed the gun at them, making threats. The victims hid behind a vehicle as Garcia fired at them. The bullet hit the vehicle door. After the gunshot, Garcia continued to approach the victims, pointing the gun in one victim's face and then attempting to pistol whip the victim with the firearm. The victims were able to get away from Garcia and call the police.
On June 15th, 2022, APD was informed that Garcia was planning to commit a mass shooting of individuals at Zilker Park the following Sunday. On the same date, two warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon were issued for Garcia's arrest due to the June 12th incident.
On June 16th, 2022, Garcia was arrested for his outstanding warrants while walking toward the area of Zilker Park. At the time of his arrest, Garcia had a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition.
Garcia is in Travis County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
