On Friday, July 10, 2020 at 4:33 a.m., APD responded to an auto-pedestrian crash. The driver of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound in the center lane in the 11800 block of N. IH-35 proper when the unidentified Hispanic male, estimated to be in his mid-20s, attempted to cross the interstate from west to east and was struck. Austin police, fire and Austin-Travis County EMS all attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene at 4:53 a.m.
The driver of the Elantra remained on scene and has been cooperative with investigators. Based on information gathered thus far, it does not appear that driver impairment, speed or weather/road conditions were factors in this crash. No charges are anticipated.

This is Austin’s 42nd fatal traffic crash of 2020, resulting in 45 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, there were 40 traffic fatalities.
