City of AustinFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pet adoption fees will be waived throughout October and at the celebratory event on October 7th.
Looking to adopt a pet this fall? You’re in luck! Adopt a Pet will be waiving pet adoption fees at Austin Animal Center throughout the month of October to encourage adoption this Adopt a Shelter Dog month. Approximately 15% of shelter dogs in Texas never find a home; this initiative is designed to provide a second chance to as many animals as possible.
To kick off this partnership, Austin Animal Center and Adopt a Pet will host a celebratory event that’s free and open to the public on Saturday, October 7th from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., giving prospective adopters the chance to meet animals and help them find their forever homes. All adoption fees will be waived at the event, and staff and volunteers will be onsite to help adopters find the right match. Attendees will also receive giveaways including new pet parent essentials, swag and more. The event will take place at Austin Animal Center, 7201 Levander Loop, Austin, TX 78702.
Jeannine Taaffe, CEO of Adopt a Pet, said: “Guiding adopters from finding their best match to becoming pet parents is what Adopt a Pet is all about – so hosting an in-person event with Austin Animal Center is the perfect way to bring our mission to life. We’re very excited to help these lovable animals and ensure their pet parents feel confident and ready to welcome them to their forever homes.” Austinites looking to welcome a pet into their family who can’t make the event on October 7th can still visit Austin Animal Center anytime in October and go home with a new furry friend, no fee necessary. In addition to covering adoption fees, Adopt a Pet will be offering post adoption guidance in the form of free new pet essentials and materials throughout October.
