Artist Reception for "Senderos del Desierto II", "Finding Wholeness", and "Colored Sensations: A Synesthete’s Vision of Letters, Numbers & Time "

Wednesday, December 6, 2023
7-9pm

Join us at the Julia C. Butridge Gallery for the Artist Reception for "Senderos del Desierto II" by Salvador Rodriguez, "Finding Wholeness" by Alex Abbott, and "Colored Sensations: A Synesthete’s Vision of Letters, Numbers & Time" by Jenny Swannack.

Salvador Rodriguez paints the magnificence of the deserts of Texas and beyond from great panoramic views. His studies take months and years of work including detailed research of the ecosystems, history, and myths of each environment in order to recreate their essence in stunning likeness.

Finding Wholeness illustrates the artist’s journey through the overwhelming darkness of the pandemic into sparkling present moments. Employing archetypal flora, fauna, and landscapes, the artist shares feelings of growth, decay, nostalgia and hope through dreamlike surrealism and crisp color realism.

Synesthesia is described as a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. Jenny Swannack is a synesthete, seeing letters, numbers, and time in color. Colored Sensations represents each month of the year and a certain date, reflecting the colors Swannack sees in each month and number.
