On June 13, 2022, the OPO received an online complaint.
The complainant alleges: I can't seem to get help. I don't know what to do, I've been
stripped of all resources, and deputies seem to either have their hands tied for
"technicalities," despite a sincere desire to help (
has been very kind), or they are
rude, abrupt, and confront me with agitation and frustration. It appears the only option for
me is to allow myself to get injured and not run away, then AGAIN file a report, talk to
victim services, have the funds SO I can stay somewhere else and hope more of my things
don't get stolen or ruined, and WAIT for someone to be ready to MAYBE help me out.
I
recognize a lot of this is out of your hands, but at the same time it appears that this system
is designed to help ONLY UNDER the most specific and limited circumstances. What will
it take for me to get help? Do I have to be attacked again? Do I have to be in critical
condition, beyond what I am, to get someone to take this seriously? Beyond physical and
emotional/psychological abuse, there is financial hardship that has stripped me of all
resources. I don't even have my health, which has been directly impacted by him. The
prolonged hypertension from incidents like this has given me a diagnosis of end stage renal
disease, I spend 12+ hours per week at dialysis, my salary has been cut in half due to the
limited hours I can work, and yet STILL no one is willing to help me. Emails have gone
nowhere, 911 calls of distress (for fear things will escalate) have resulted in nothing but
aggravation from officers, and I'm left to just deal with this and, apparently, hope I get
injured yet again SO something MIGHT happen this time around, assuming I survive. I
can't believe that's what it will take. Fix this broken system. "Protect and serve." Help
people that need it and are pleading for help.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
