Deceased: Roberto Robby Reyna, 7/19/1977
On Friday, July 19, 2013, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Austin police responded to a shooting in the 3500 block of Gonzales Street. Upon arrival, officers located 36-year-old Roberto Reyna in the living room of his grandmother’s residence. Roberto was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge where he was pronounced deceased at 1:28 a.m.
A family member, who was with Roberto Reyna at the time he was shot, told police that the two men were swimming in the pool behind the residence when a vehicle pulled up in front of the house. The suspect, described below, got out and walked toward the back yard. Mr. Reyna exited the pool and spoke with the unidentified man for several minutes before the suspect produced a gun and fired, striking him.
Mr. Reyna and the family member fled into the house where the victim collapsed.
The suspect is described as:
- Hispanic male
- Estimated to be between 5’7” and 5’9”
- He was bald or had very short hair at the time of the shooting
- Medium build
- Last seen wearing a knee-length, black t-shirt and dark blue jeans
Mr. Reyna, who owned an upholstery shop and spent time teaching his younger cousins about the craft, was planning to get a degree in business. At the time of his death, his family was looking forward to a trip to the lake the following day in celebration of Roberto’s birthday.
APD investigators spoke with witnesses, family members, and those who knew Mr. Reyna in an effort to identify the suspect. At the time of this press release, all known leads have been exhausted.
