On Saturday, January 11, 2020 at approximately 9:47 a.m., Austin Police responded to multiple 911 calls of someone being shot in the parking lot at 1106 Reinli St. Upon arrival, officers located a subject lying face down in the northeast corner of the parking lot. Officers noticed that the subject, while unresponsive, was still clutching a semi-automatic pistol. Austin Fire and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and began life-saving measures, however they were unsuccessful. The subject, later identified as Issac Dixon, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 10:18 a.m. by Dr. Ackrell.
Homicide detectives arrived on scene and located witnesses who were able to give 911 and responding officers a description of the shooter and direction of travel. Within a few blocks, officers located a subject identified matching the description of the shooter and took him into custody. He was identified as Marvin D. Elam. Elam told detectives that an argument over the theft of his daughter’s piggy bank ensued between he and Dixon. The argument escalated into Dixon and Elam pulling guns and shooting at one another. Elam claims that Dixon fired the first shots and he returned fire in self-defense. Elam fled the scene and discarded his pistol in a creek prior to being taken into custody.
This case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Elam was filed on for unlawful possession of a firearm, by a convicted felon, a felony of the 3rd degree. His bond was set at $20,000 dollars.
