On Monday, November 8, 2021, at approximately 12:25 a.m., 9-1-1 received a call in reference to an unresponsive man at Mehl’s Motel at 6712 N. Lamar Blvd. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on scene and located the male victim in a room on the floor. They were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced deceased at 12:33 a.m. at the scene.
While on scene, EMS personnel were approached by another man who appeared to have been physically assaulted. It was quickly determined that the assault incident and the incident involving the unresponsive man were related. EMS called for Austin Police Department officers. Once on the scene, it was determined that the decedent had been involved in a physical altercation with people staying in the motel room. Officers secured the scene and called for homicide investigators.
Homicide detectives and crime scene technicians responded to the scene to investigate, interview people and process the scene. They also located and interviewed a possible suspect on scene. The case remains under investigation.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
