On Thursday, September 21, 2023, at approximately 5:32 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a shooting at the SoCo Park Apartment Homes located at 7201 South Congress Avenue. Callers reported that a man had been shot. Upon arrival to the scene, Officers located Juan Davila with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartment homes. Davila died at the scene.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. Preliminary investigation revealed that Davila and another man were involved in a disturbance in the parking lot, following a road rage incident. At one point, Davila pulled out a handgun and he was subsequently shot and killed by the other man.

The other man involved in the incident has been identified. No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
