The City of Austin is launching the community engagement phase of the Great Streets Plan Update with an open house and online survey

The City of Austin invites the public and members of the media to an open house this week to learn about an effort to modernize the streets of Downtown Austin. The event marks the beginning of the public engagement phase of the Great Streets Plan Update which also includes an online survey open through mid-September.

OPEN HOUSE

  • WHEN: Wednesday, Aug. 13, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
  • WHERE: Austin Central Library, 710 W. Cesar Chavez St.

ONLINE SURVEY

  • WHEN: Aug. 13 – Sept. 10
  • WHERE: www.SpeakUpAustin.org/GreatStreetsUpdate

Spearheaded by the Planning Department’s Urban Design Division, the Great Streets Plan Update seeks to upgrade the safety, livability, and looks of Downtown Austin’s streetscapes and sidewalks. The update comes nearly 25 years after City Council adopted the Great Streets Plan with the aim of making the Downtown pedestrian experience a place for interaction, urban life, vitality, and vibrancy for residents, workers, and visitors alike.

The upcoming open house is an opportunity for Austinites to not only learn about the Great Streets Plan Update but also to share their concerns and priorities with the project team. The open house will allow participants to come and go as they please. Information shared at the event will also be available online.
