On Sunday, March 12, 2023, at approximately 5:53 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between an SUV and a pickup truck in the 6300 block of W US 290 Highway. The SUV driver was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The driver and passenger inside the pickup truck were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the pickup truck cooperated with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 20th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 20 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 17 fatal crashes resulted in 18 deaths.
