On Saturday, December 30, 2023, at approximately 11:36 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 8400 block of Research Boulevard Service Road SB. Both the driver and passenger died on the scene. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Omar Vasquez Sanchez. 
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 89th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 93 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 115 fatal crashes resulted in 121 deaths.
