On June 10th, 2022, at approximately 12:28 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the intersection of Texas Oaks Drive and Slaughter Lane regarding a crash between a truck and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, Jedd Bennett, was traveling east on Slaughter Lane, approaching the intersection with a green light. The truck was facing westbound at the intersection when the driver of the truck made a left turn in front of the motorcycle’s path, causing the crash. Bennett died at the scene. The truck driver, 20-year-old Jose Rangel Mendez, was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter, a 2nd-degree felony.
