Arrested: Tomas Camacho-Torres, Hispanic male, 23-years-old
UPDATE: During the investigation, detectives identified Tomas Camacho-Torres as the suspect who shot Jahiro Rodriguez-Perez. On Sunday, February 12, 2023, investigators obtained a warrant for Camacho’s arrest. On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, APD officers and Lone Star Fugitive Task Force members located Camacho at a residence and took him into custody without incident.
This is still an active investigation.

On Saturday, February 11, 2023, at approximately 8:13 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shooting at a home located in the 1300 block of Bonnie Brae Street. Officers and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and discovered Jahiro Rodriguez-Perez, had been shot. EMS began life saving measures on Rodriguez and took him to a local hospital, where he died on February 12.
Aggravated Assault Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene. Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
