Sobering Center provides community members with a safe place to recover.

The Austin City Council seeks applications from qualified individuals to serve on the eleven-member Sobering Center Local Government Corporation Board of Directors to fill an unexpired Board Member term through December 31, 2026. 

Applications will remain open until the position has been filled.

The Sobering Center is incorporated to aid and to act on behalf of the City and the County to accomplish their governmental purpose; namely to provide community members with a safe place to recover from intoxication in lieu of jail or the emergency room and to then be referred to community-based resources as needed.

Qualifications to fill the open seat on the Sobering Center Board of Directors include:  

  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • A resident of both the City of Austin, Texas and Travis County, Texas
  • A citizen of the State of Texas
  • Individuals with non-profit fundraising expertise

 
Application Process 
Interested applicants may complete a City of Austin Boards and Commissions application online at https://bit.ly/ATXBCApply 

Applicants are also requested to submit a Resume and a Statement of Intent with the application or via email to Assistant City Clerk Stephanie Hall at stephanie.hall@austintexas.gov.
 
Applications will be reviewed by the Austin City Council Public Health Committee.
