The City of Austin has conducted a study of street lighting in West Campus, with a focus on pedestrian safety. Austin Transportation and Public Works Department, Austin Police and Austin Energy collaborated to deliver a final report to Council in spring 2019, incorporating the lighting study with a public engagement process, a pedestrian crash analysis and a crime analysis of the West Campus area.  These combined efforts provide a better understanding of how pedestrian lighting may improve existing conditions related to crime and traffic safety.

Community Input

Austin Transportation and Public Works collected community input on lighting in West Campus through an online survey and interactive input map that were open between October 2017 and February 2018, along with a public open house and neighborhood night walk held in January 2018.
