On Wednesday, September 16, between the hours of 12:48 a.m. and 1:05 a.m., a white 2015 – 2020 Lexus NX 200 or 300 was observed driving in the 6500 block of S. 1st St. At the same time, a male, described as approximately 5’11” with a thin build was observed on foot. The Lexus and the pedestrian appeared to be moving in concert with each other. The driver and the man walking are considered persons of interest in the murder of John Young.

A $1000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.

The Austin Police Dept. is asking for assistance in identifying the owner of a white or cream colored 2015 – 2020 Lexus NX 200 or 300 model.
On Wednesday, September 16 at approximately 5:27 A.M, Austin 911 received a call of a man bleeding at the bus stop in the 6500 blk of S. 1st St. Officers arrived at the location and found a John Young with a gunshot wound. The Young was pronounced deceased at 5:39 A.M. by Dr. Escott.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene specialist arrived to process the scene. Detectives believe the Young was experiencing homelessness and was lying asleep on the bus stop bench when he was killed. There is no apparent motive for the murder.
Detectives also learned that earlier in the morning at 1:06 A.M., Austin 911 received multiple calls of several shots fired in the area of William Cannon and S.1st St. Officers checked the area but did not locate anything suspicious.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will be conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
