Campaign aims to attract talented public servants who may want to continue their careers at the municipal government level.

In response to workforce changes announced by the federal government, the City of Austin has launched “Get Hired in Austin." This recruitment campaign aims to attract talented public servants who may want to continue their careers at the municipal government level.

As always, the City welcomes skilled and passionate people committed to serving their communities and wants them to know Austin may be a great fit.

“We are currently hiring for many vacancies at various skill levels and areas of expertise,” Austin City Manager T.C. Broadnax said. “With so many dedicated public servants looking for work where they can make a difference, it only makes sense to let them know the City of Austin is a rewarding option.”

The City’s “Get Hired in Austin” campaign highlights the benefits of living in the Austin area and working for the City of Austin. In addition to the continued local hiring efforts, this campaign will expand its focus to include connecting with former and current federal government employees looking for a change. Jobs featured in the campaign will consist of those with the highest vacancy rates, and traditionally hard-to-fill positions in fields such as engineering, information technology and healthcare.

“This is a unique opportunity to recruit professionals who want to start or continue their public service careers helping our community in Austin,” Mayor Kirk Watson said. “I’m proud of the work our public servants do every day and hope to add to our talented workforce.”

Those interested in employment with the City of Austin can search for current vacancies at AustinCityJobs.org.

Background:
Each year, the City of Austin attempts to fill about 2,400 permanent and temporary jobs within a workforce of 16,000. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the City recognized that its job vacancy rate continued to be higher than the norm, and in February 2023 launched its “Get Hired” campaign to address high vacancy rates across many departments. At the start of the campaign, the overall City vacancy rate for civilian positions was 16.9 percent. The vacancy rate after the campaign ended in September 2023 was 12.9 percent.

While the City’s civilian vacancy rate hovers around 9 percent, it is essential to continue to attract the best and the brightest. The City's successful Get Hired local initiative is a strong foundation for the new “Get Hired in Austin” campaign, which focuses on attracting federal employees to the Austin area.
