What is Mass Care?
Mass Care is the process of meeting community needs such as sheltering, food, medical care, supplies, and family reunification in the event of a disaster.
What AEM's Mass Care Team Does
AEM Mass Care coordinates emergency needs related to human life safety impacts during a disaster. This includes feeding operations, water distribution, volunteer and donations management, and shelter operations.
Before a disaster, AEM’s Mass Care team is working to coordinate resources and build relationships to strengthen community resilience.
Shelter Operations
AEM's Mass Care team works with public and community partners to provide safe locations when Austinites are affected.
Mass Care manages Austin’s cold weather shelters for people experiencing homelessness when the need exceeds 300 individuals.
Austin Resilience Network (ARN)
AEM's Mass Care Team coordinates the Austin Resilience Network (ARN). ARN is a network of city and community resources that equitably empower individuals to prepare for, endure, and bounce back stronger from community-wide shocks, stressors, and emergencies.
Austin Emergency Management (AEM) is addressing resilience in Austin collaborating on this program through the lens of emergency management, focusing on disaster preparedness response and community disaster resilience.
