Shaping Austin's Economic Development Policy
Austin is growing.
Austin Economic Development recruits and supports businesses and programs to improve the lives of all of Austin. The goal of these programs can create opportunities for the community, strengthen businesses, bolster the economy, and preserve the city's distinctive identity.
Our new strategy may be bolder and more beneficial than ever. But first - we want to hear from you. Whether you're a business owner, a long-standing community member, or new to our city, we invite you to share your thoughts on what economic development means to you and what it could mean for the City of Austin.
Background
On May 7, 2026, Austin City Council directed the City Manager to develop and present a comprehensive Economic Development Policy for Council consideration.
The policy is intended to establish a framework for how Austin approaches economic development, including business recruitment and retention, available economic development tools, community benefits, international economic development, major development opportunities, innovation, and support for small businesses.
