Do you have an upcoming on-demand household hazardous waste (HHW) appointment? Keep in mind that HHW items cannot be set out at the curb. Ensure a smooth collection process by following these set-out guidelines:

  • Seal or close and clearly label all HHW products. This helps prevent spills or other accidents during the collection process. It’s important that bottles and containers are clearly labeled with what's inside them so that staff know how to properly dispose of the contents.
  • Place your items in a recyclable container. A cardboard box will do the trick. Using a recyclable container makes it easier for crews to collect and transport the HHW. These containers will not be returned.
  • Place the container in a covered outdoor area where staff can easily access it. Areas such as a porch, a garage, front door or under an overhang are preferable. HHW should not be left out of the rain and direct sunlight. Remember to never place your HHW at the curb.
  • Keep pets restrained or bring them inside. Collections staff need to be able to safely access the items.
  • Keep containers smaller than 5 gallons. Staff will not be able to collect containers larger than 5 gallons.
  • Keep total amount of materials to 30 gallons or less. There is a 30-gallon limit for the total amount of HHW materials that can be collected for each appointment. If you have more than 30 gallons, you can schedule another appointment or drop the extra material off at the Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center.
