The City of Austin provides many resources to its residents when we are faced with unexpected challenges.  From extreme weather events to resource shortages to other events, these challenges take on many forms.  During these times, it’s important to connect residents with services and provide help to those in need. 

The information below combines resources from the City of Austin, Travis County, and city partners to help you find area services in one convenient location.

Food access and resources

Due to the federal government shutdown, only partial SNAP payments will be sent in November 2025.  Below is information for residents of Austin and Travis County looking for food access and resources.

  • Austin Utilities is taking steps to help avoid disruptions in service and providing information on payment flexibility options. The City is also offering a 30-day pause on any immediate collections activity and providing flexible reconnection options should a household be impacted with a service interruption.    
  • Austin Energy’s Customer Assistance Program (CAP), administered by Austin Utilities, provides a suite of support services for community members experiencing financial hardship, serious medical conditions, or other vulnerabilities that may impact their ability to pay for or maintain utility services.

    • 311 is the non-emergency information center and service request line for the City of Austin, available 24/7, 365 days a year. Residents and visitors can use it to report issues, ask questions about city services, and connect with the appropriate departments.

    • 211 is the state's helpline for information and referrals to health and human services, connecting people to a wide range of community-based programs. It is a free and confidential service, available 24/7, that can provide assistance with needs such as food, housing, utilities, child care, and domestic violence.
