Upcoming Meeting to Explore Code Amendments for Buildings with 3-4 Dwelling Units

Join us Thursday, Nov. 12, on Zoom to learn about proposed code amendments for buildings with three to four dwelling units. Today, those structures must follow the International Building Code (IBC) requirements for multifamily units. Those requirements include fire safety protections to help keep occupants safe where common walls and exits can create additional risk. The IBC also requires a commercial grade engineering and site plan review.

The proposed amendments eliminate the engineering and site plan requirement and include several specific requirements for three- and four-unit structures, such as:

  • Maximum building size of 6,000 square feet

  • Fire-resistant separations between dwelling units and shared exits

  • Automatic sprinkler systems

  • Additional fire-safety requirements for garages, carports, and wooden decks

Learn more and register today. Comments will be accepted on PublicInput through Nov. 27.
