Cooperatives are part of a worldwide movement to rethink economic and social institutions to serve the needs of vulnerable and historically underinvested group, incentivizing collective action and rewarding mutual aid. The vision of this movement, sometimes called the Solidarity Economy, imagines a world where labor has the same value as ownership, and where the institutions of government and finace are designed to protect and uplift rather than minimize and oppress.
