Suspect: Brett Garza, White male, 31 years of age
On February 2025, Austin Police Department (APD) Narcotic Support Unit (NSU) detectives received information about a suspect distributing fentanyl and residing in the Del Valle area. NSU was able to locate and identify the suspect as Brett Garza. Over the course of six months, NSU conducted a large amount of surveillance and multiple controlled narcotics purchases and identified additional subjects, residences, and vehicles involved together in the distribution of fentanyl in the Austin area.
On Thursday, August 14, 2025, a joint operation with NSU and the Department’s K9 Interdiction Unit was conducted. During this operation, Brett Garza was stopped after leaving a residence involved in the investigation. A large quantity of fentanyl, cocaine, and US Currency was located inside of his vehicle. A subsequent residential search warrant was then executed with the assistance of APD SWAT, resulting in a combined seizure (vehicle and residence) of the following:
4 kilograms / 9 pounds of fentanyl
623 grams / 1.4 pounds of heroin
115 grams of cocaine
2 firearms
$9,752 US Currency
Garza was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail. Charges are pending at this time.
